冷泉政為〈れいぜいまさため・1445-1523〉は、室町時代の公卿で歌人。父は下冷泉家の祖・持為〈もちため・1401-54〉。10歳のとき父と死別したため、姉である春芳院（足利義政女房）に育てられた。初名は成為、のち、義政の一字を受けて政為と改名した。永正10年〈1513〉出家、法名を暁覚と号した。歌道家の人として生涯を通じて歌道に精進し、当時の歌檀における指導的役割を果たした。家集の『碧玉集』は、後柏原天皇の『柏玉集』、三条西実隆の『雪玉集』と共に三玉集と並び称された。この和歌懐紙は、大永元年〈1521〉９月９日開催の、重陽御会で書かれたものである。政為は当時、出家後の77歳で、没する２年前の最晩年の執筆ながら、しっかりした運筆で、瑞々しささえ感じられる。この詠歌は『碧玉集』に所収される。「「籬の菊新たに綻ぶ」ということを詠める和歌／沙弥暁覚／花の紐今日解き初めつ三千年の桃の名に負ふ菊の籬に」
