元政〈げんせい・1623-68〉は、江戸時代前期の日蓮宗の僧侶。京都の人。梶井宮・毛利輝元に仕えた石井元好の五男。母が彦根藩主の乳母であった縁で、13歳から彦根藩主井伊直孝に近侍した。やがて病をわずらい、退仕して、26歳のとき出家。妙顕寺日豊に参じた。出家後は元政と号し、また妙子・泰堂・不可思議・草山和尚などとも号した。洛南深草に瑞光寺を建立し住したため、深草の元政といわれた。漢詩文と和歌を能くし、学識高い文人僧として知られる。歌学を松永貞徳に、漢学を熊沢蕃山に学び、石川丈山や陳元贇らとも広く交わったという。書は大師流に長じていた。これは、和歌懐紙。曲線を巧みに用いて、自由な雰囲気で一首を揮毫したもの。「「緑畦の夏草」ということを詠める和歌／沙門元政／分けゆかば野辺は繁れる夏草の中にも元の道や残らむ」
