Prince Songo (1302-59) was Emperor Fushimi (1265-1317)’s son and was only four years younger than Prince Son-en. At first, he went up to live in Byodo-In Temple and entered the priesthood in 1313, whereupon his name was changed to Songo and he started to live in Enman-In. Later, he was three times appointed head priest of Onjoji Temple and then the chief of the Three Sacred Mountains of Kumano. After that, he became the steward at Tennoji Temple (1356), where he was an active scholar-priest. Prince Songo died in 1359 at the age of 58.
