独鈷杵（とっこしょ）とは金剛杵（こんごうしょ）の一つで、密教独特の法具である。もともと古代インドの武器であり、転じて人間の心の中の煩悩の賊を打ちくだき、本来の仏性をあらわすための助けとするものとして法具に取り入れられた。把の両端に各１つの鈷と呼ばれる鋭い刃をつけたもので、武器としての最も基本的な姿を示している。把の中央には、鬼目と呼ばれる球状の突起を四面につけ、その両側に８葉の蓮弁を帯状に飾っている。形姿の美しさや、小さいながらそのたくましさに、鎌倉時代の好尚が示されている。
