江戸時代後期の大名茶人松平不昧の画像。松平不昧〈まつだいらふまい・1751-1818〉は、出雲国松江藩主。名は治郷、不昧のほか、宗納・未央庵など多くの号をもつ。重なる天災・飢饉によって窮乏した藩の財政を、藩政改革を断行して立て直すなど、優れた政治家として知られる。が、遠州流・三斎流さらには石州流茶道を修め、不昧流の一派を立てた大名茶人として名声が高い。文化３年〈1806〉家督を譲り、出家して不昧を名乗って以後は、藩の財政の好転を背景に茶の湯の名器を収集、ついには「雲州名物」（雲州蔵帳）と呼ばれる一大コレクションを成した。本図は、悠々自適の晩年の茶人不昧を描いた肖像画である。落款により、大正５年〈1916〉、従３位に追贈されたことを記念しての制作と知れる。が、筆者たる「雲隣精」（印章により、岡精、号は雲隣）の伝記は未詳。
