尊朝法親王〈そんちょうほうしんのう・1552-97〉は、伏見宮邦輔親王〈くにすけしんのう・1513-63〉の第六王子。弘治元年〈1555〉４歳で京都粟田口の青蓮院に入室。永禄元年〈1558〉正親町天皇の猶子となる。同５年11歳で得度して、尊朝と号し、翌６年に親王宣下を賜った。元亀２年〈1571〉の織田信長の比叡山焼き打ち以来、廃墟となっていた延暦寺を再興し、みずから天台座主となる。歴代の青蓮院門跡の中でもとりわけ能書として名高く、その遺墨は尊重され、数多く伝存している。尊朝法親王の書は、青蓮院流から独立させて、尊朝流として位置づけられている。また、『墨池掌譜』『入木道口伝』などの入木道（書道）に関する貴重な著作も残している。
