松平定信〈まつだいらさだのぶ・1757-1829〉は、江戸時代後期の将軍補佐兼老中。田安宗武の子で、八代将軍徳川吉宗の孫にあたる。旭峰、楽翁、風月翁、花月翁などと号した。17歳のとき、白河藩主松平定邦の養子となり、やがて家督を継いだ。天明７年〈1787〉に老中となり、いわゆる「寛政の改革」を行うが、保守的政策が受入れられず失脚。白河藩に戻り、藩政に努力した。晩年は文人として諸道を専らとし、その教養深く、著述は多数にのぼる。自叙伝の『宇下人言』や『花月草紙』『国本論』『集古十種』（当時伝存の考古や古美術を鐘銘・碑銘・額・法帖・印章ほかに分類し、その模写と寸法、所在を記した大図録集）などがある。書は持明院流を学び、社寺の額をはじめ多くの遺墨を残した。定信は、文政９年〈1826〉以降、署名にある「楽翁」と号したことから、これは70歳以降の書である。「寒月松を照す／楽翁／木枯らしのたえし高嶺に琴の音の月に残れる松のひとひら」
