The 36 kaishi (a fair copy of a poem) with Japanese and Chinese-style poems composed by the noblemen living between the Muromachi and Edo periods are pasted on a six-panel byobu screen. The aristocrats held high government posts like Prime Minister, Ministers of the Right and Left, State Councilors and Counselors of varying ranks, who mostly belong to the Kuge (aristocratic families) or Dojo (nobles allowed to sit with the emperor) families. The right panel shows a collection of spring poems, and the left one, autumn poems.
