興意法親王〈こういほうしんのう・1576-1620〉は陽光太上天皇の第五王子。母は新上東門院晴子。幼称は五宮。はじめ円満院に入ってからのち、天正19年〈1591〉聖護院に入室し、道勝と号した。同年に親王宣下を賜る。慶長12年〈1607〉照高院を継承、翌年に興意と改名した。同15年には園城寺長吏になり、同18年、二品に叙せられた。翌19年に、かねてより寺務職を兼帯の方広寺で鐘銘事件が起こり、幕府からの嫌疑をかけられた興意法親王は蟄居させられた。やがて嫌疑が晴れるに至り、白川に新坊を建て、照高院を移した。その後、江戸滞在中に急死した。現存最古といわれる「百人一首歌かるた」（滴翠美術館蔵）の筆者であり、その書は道澄流の系譜とされる。
