カヌーの船首・船尾に突き出すように取り付けられた装飾品である。木板を彫り抜き，赤・白・黒で彩色されている。多くの類例と同様に、飾り板全体は長楕円形を呈する。展示資料の彫刻意匠は魚だが、ビスマルク群島の類例には鰐や男性など他にもさまざまな種類が見出せる。一方の飾り板には、白色のウミギクガイが2 つ括りつけられている。マリンブルーの海を疾走するカヌーの先端で、浪切りの音に混じってウミギクガイの突き合う音が聞こえてくるようだ。
