隋から唐にかけての鏡の文様に、最も多く描かれる獣は、狻猊（獅子）である。獅子すなわちライオンはもともと中国には生息していない動物であるが、とりわけ唐時代には、西域諸国から中国皇帝に頻繁に献上されていたことが記録に残されている（『冊府元亀〔さっぷげんき〕』）。唐代の国際性を示す鏡である。
