狩野興以〈かのうこうい・?-1636〉は、桃山時代の画家。狩野光信の最も優れた門人の１人で、牧谿や雪舟に私淑、水墨画の伝統的画法を会得した。本図は、蘆の穂が揺れる水辺に降り立った１羽の雁を描く。秋も深まったころ北国から飛来する雁は、古来、花鳥画の恰好の画題として描かれてきた。水墨に淡彩を交えて雁の生態を情感豊かにとらえている。
