岩手県軽米町君成田遺跡出土と伝えられる。小粘土塊を中央がやや膨らむ棒状に成形し、耳、四肢、尾を貼り付ける。細い棒状工具による刺突で目を、同工具を横に押し当てて口を表現する。背には一面、同様の刺突を施す。製作時についた爪の痕や窪み、指紋などが認められ、指の動きが推測できる。写実的ではないが、大きな耳や上方を向いていたと思われる尾から、イヌを象ったものと考えてよさそうである。縄文時代のイヌ形土製品の出土例は少なく、土偶などの様式化された土製品とは異なり、いずれもイレギュラーな製作物と思われる。その分、造形には自由度があり、製作者の技量や感性などが表れやすい。例えば本例が首を右に傾けている点は、製作者の観察に基づく独自の表現である可能性がある。また、両前肢付け根の貫通孔からは、本例が紐で吊るすか何かに取り付けられて使用されていたことが窺われる。製作者が愛犬を象って身に着けていたのかも知れない。（安藤広道）
