ブラウン大学名誉教授バートン・リーヴァイ・セントアーマンド・コレクション（Professor Barton Levi St. Armand’s Collection）より19世紀アメリカ作家エドガー・アラン・ポー（Edgar Allan Poe [1809−1849]）の遺髪。 ポーは世界文学史上における探偵小説の創始者として広く知られるが、ほかにも怪奇幻想小説や空想科学小説などさまざまなジャンルに手を染め、今日の現代文学にまで多大な影響を及ぼした文豪である。2009年に生誕200周年を迎えるにあたり、ポーを含む19世紀アメリカ文学研究の権威セントアーマンド教授より、ここに貴重な品をご提供いただいた。この髪の毛は、ポー晩年の婚約者で詩人のセアラ・ヘレン・ホイットマンが切り取ったといわれている。（名誉教授 巽孝之）（2009年三田メディアセンター企画展示解説より）
