最胤法親王〈さいいんほうしんのう・1563-1639〉は伏見宮邦輔（くにすけ）親王の第８王子。尊朝（そんちょう）法親王、守理（しゅり）法親王の弟にあたる。正親町天皇の猶子となり、天正３年〈1575〉親王宣下を受け、惟常（これつね）と称した。同年、梶井円融坊（三千院）の応胤（おういん）法親王のもとで得度し、慶長７年〈1602〉第169代天台座主となる。寛永16年〈1639〉、77歳で死去。最胤法親王は書道史上、尊朝法親王の尊朝流に属し、この短冊においてもその影響が見受けられる。
