智忠親王〈としただしんのう・1619-62〉は、八条宮家初代の智仁親王（としひとしんのう）の第一王子。はじめ忠仁（ただひと）といい、のち智忠と改めた。寛永元年〈1624〉従兄にあたる後水尾天皇（ごみずのおてんのう）の猶子となり、同３年に親王宣下を受けた。同６年〈1629〉元服し八条宮を継ぐ。父智仁親王の建立した桂離宮の整備に努めたことで知られる。実父智仁親王、養父後水尾天皇の薫陶をうけて諸芸に秀で、なかでも和歌と書道にはその才能をいかんなく発揮した。当代一流の能書として知られ、流れるような筆致に特徴がある。書道史上は、後柏原院（ごかしわばらいん）流に属す。
