西洞院時慶〈にしのとういんときよし・1552-1639〉は、飛鳥井家より河鰭（かわばた）家へ入るが、のち西洞院家を継いだ。初名は公虎（きみとら）、のち時通（ときみち）、ついで時慶と改名。永禄７年〈1564〉、従五位下に叙せられ、以後、累進して、慶長16年〈1611〉、従二位・左衛門督に至る。また、後陽成天皇に近侍して、慶長勅版本刊行に従事した。寛永16年〈1639〉、88歳で没した。日記に『時慶卿記』がある。書は、青蓮院流第44代門跡の尊応准后〈そんのうじゅごう・?-1514〉を祖とする尊応流に属する。この短冊は、署名より、「時慶」と改名した天正19年〈1591・40歳〉から、出家した寛永元年〈1624・73歳〉までの間に書かれたものとわかる。筆勢に力強さはないが、書き慣れた筆致である。50代の執筆か。
