日野輝資〈ひのてるすけ・1555-1623〉は、広橋国光（ひろはしくにみつ）の子。初名は兼保（かねやす）。永禄２年〈1559〉日野家に迎えられ、晴光（はるみつ）の養嗣子となって輝資と改名した。天正15年〈1587〉に正二位・権大納言に至る。しかし、慶長７年〈1602〉正月７日、後陽成天皇により、突如として白馬節会（あおうまのせちえ）への出仕を止められ、息男資勝（すけかつ）とともに出奔。翌８年〈1603〉11月に一切の職を辞し、同12年に出家した。法名を知云（ちうん）・唯心（ゆいしん）と称す。日野家は代々、儒学・歌道をもって仕えており、輝資も出家後は、余生を文雅の道に送った。徳川家康が在京の時は、侍して学を講じたという。書は、道澄流の書き手として知られる。この短冊は署名の「輝資」より、慶長12年〈1607〉の出家前に書写されたもの。一行目が中心寄りで、行が左に流れる癖がみてとれる。歌題は、飛鳥井雅庸〈あすかいまさつね・1569-1615〉の筆であるという旨の極札が添えられている。
