Governor of Dewa Yonezawa Province Uesugi Munefusa (1716-46) was the second son of Uesugi Yoshinori (1684-1722). Munefusa was named Masachiyo in childhood. His older brother, Munenori (1714-34), died young, Masachiyo, only 17, was sworn in to head the Uesugi Family in 1734. In the same year Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune bestowed upon him the new name of Munefusa. His childhood name Masachiyo is written in this waka kaishi, so this seems his teenage poem.
