古筆了佐〈こひつりょうさ・1572-1662〉は、江戸時代初期の古筆鑑定家で、古筆家の始祖。近江国の出身で、平沢弥四郎と称したが、のち出家して了佐を号とした。烏丸光広に和歌を学ぶ一方で、古筆鑑定の手ほどきを受けた。また近衛前久に書画の鑑定を学んだという。やがて古筆鑑定を業として江戸幕府から古筆の姓を賜る。さらに豊臣秀次からは「琴山」の印を与えられ、代々、極印として用いた。これは、歳末にあたり、「除夜」と「元旦」と題する三句と和歌一首を記したもの。朴訥とした了佐らしい筆跡である。「除夜了佐うつ豆のねこそたかけれ福は内／元旦同大福のお茶も豊かな御代の春／同同年も春も今日あら玉の光かな／同同年と友に春ぞ立ちぬるあさづくひ百千の鳥の声麗らなり」
