持明院基孝〈じみょういんもとたか・1520-1611〉は、桃山から江戸時代初期にかけての公卿。基規〈もとのり・1492-1551〉の子。持明院流の祖・基春〈もとはる・1453-1535〉の孫にあたる。66歳のとき正二位・権中納言に至り、戦乱の都に留まって、92歳の長寿で没するまで、現役の公卿を全うした。基孝は、宮廷貴族層を傘下に、持明院流の権勢拡張に励み、数多くの人々に書法を伝授した。「持明院入木道誓紙」という、入木の伝授を受けた者が提出する誓約状の、夥しい数がそれを示している。持明院流中興の祖たるゆえんである。この詠草は、右上の端書きにより、文禄４年〈1595〉２月に行なわれた、宮中における月次歌会に出詠のための草稿。一首目に、歌道の師（不明）によると思われる合点、加筆の跡が見られ、添削の様子を知ることができる。基孝76歳の筆。老齢ゆえか随所に震えがみられる。「文禄四（年）二（月）禁裏御月次／山館の竹／基孝／人知れず住とはすれど山かげの竹の下道かよふ春風／山かげの竹を愛づるに住み慣れて常磐堅磐の万代や経ん」
