柳原淳光〈やなぎわらあつみつ・1541-97〉は、桃山時代の公卿。町資将〈まちすけまさ・1518-55〉の子で、初名は将光。のち柳原資定〈すけさだ・1495-1578〉の養子となり、天文20年〈1551〉家督を継いで、淳光と改名した。永禄６年〈1563〉参議、天正７年〈1579〉11月に権大納言に任ぜられるも、翌８年正月これを辞し、２月に正二位に叙された。慶長２年〈1597〉８月６日、57歳の時に従一位に叙せられたが、同11日に没した。庭田重保〈にわたしげやす・1525-95〉、高倉永相〈たかくらながすけ・1531-85〉の同題の懐紙が伝存する。相互吟味の結果、これは天正13年〈1585〉の新年御会のものと判明。とすると、淳光は45歳であった。大胆な運筆による特異な字形は、執筆時の心理状態の違いによるものであろう。「春の日、「梅、久しく薫る」ということを詠める和歌／正二位淳光／咲く梅の花に吹き来て家の風絶えず幾世の香に匂ふらむ」
