黄麻紙に『大般若経』巻第四二四「第二分遠離品第廿四之二」を書写する。「大般若経一部六百巻書写供養」として発願されたものである。その筆法からして、奈良時代後期の書写と思われる。が、当時、官立写経所でつくられた写経生の端正な書風とは異なる。あるいは、地方における知識僧による写経ではなかったか。『大般若経』（大般若波羅蜜多経）は、「般若波羅蜜」（完成された最高の智慧）を説く多くの般若経典群の総称で、全600巻から成る。あらゆる仏典中で最大規模の経典。唐の玄奘の訳。『法華経』とおなじく写経の功徳を説き、この経典を供養するものは諸の神によって常に護られると説かれることから、わが国においても、奈良時代以後、平安・鎌倉時代を通じて数多く書写された。この１巻は、もと巻子本であったものを後世に折本（旋風葉＝本紙を蛇腹状に折り畳んでいき、最初と最後の１紙［１折分］を表紙の堅い紙に貼り付けて包む）に改装したもの。転読供養の際の読経を簡易化するための工夫であった。その後、再度もとの巻子装に戻されたもの。折り目がそれを証明する。
