Takimotobo Jojun (years of birth and death unknown) was a Shingon Sect Buddhist monk, as well as an achieved calligrapher, of the early Edo Period. He was the son of Nakanuma Sakyo (, the elder brother of Shokado Shojo (1584-1638), a Buddhist monk and famous calligrapher. Following in his famous uncle’s footsteps, Jojun became the third bishop of the Takimotobo sub-temple of Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine, not to mention a faithful follower of the Shojo Style his uncle originated. A genealogyof calligraphic instructors listed in the Takimoto School Shokado Hisseki-ho Cho (lit. “Collection of Exemplary Texts of Shokado School Calligraphy”) includes Jojun’s name immediately after Shojo’s. This means Jojun was the second-generation head of the Takimoto School, a school that found ardent followers among Shojo’s close friends, who were mostly priests but also laymen, and that became popular among Edo’s townspeople. This letter is addressed to Nishikawa Yasuyemon, who had given Jojun a hand towel as a gift the night before. Jojun thanks Yasuyemon for the gift and also for arranging a meeting for both himself and Shojo with Mr. Hosai (whose identity is not known) on the 16th.Jojun also reports how he is doing.
