当資料は⽻⽑を⽤いた装飾品を模したものであると推定される。彩⾊以前に施された線刻は⽻⽑の形態を端的に表すとともに彩⾊箇所を指定する役割を果たしている。また線刻の幅には差異が認められ、彩⾊との対応関係が認められる。特に⿊⾊を縁取る線刻の幅は⾮常に狭く、鉄製加⼯具の使⽤を伺わせる。⽩⾊の下地と⿊・⾚⾊による細部の彩⾊はマランガン造形物を連想させる。
Krämer, A. によってこの装飾がマランガン像やウリ像の頭頂部に配置されることが報告されている。シカゴ・フィールドミュージアムが所蔵する小嶺の収集品にはME-1521に酷似する資料が存在し、その頭部には当資料と同様の装飾部材が配されていることから、当資料はME-1521から脱落したのかもしれない。
