Noble and extremely delicate in form, this marble statue was chiselled by a craftsman of very considerable skill. Elaborate expression is given to all its details, to the scarf-like garment, the loin cloth, the strings of jewels -- indeed, at the belly the loin cloth appears almost to be animated, waving as if caught by a breeze. And while the hands and feet are comparatively large, the bodhisattva's face is gentle and full of compassion, and a faint smile can be detected on his lips and around his half-closed eyes. Unfortunately, the left hand and stole are missing.
