The roof and the base have been lost from this pagoda-shaped stupa, a container for preserving Buddhist scriptures (sutras) for burial in sutra mounds (Jp: kyozuka). The inscription on the body reads that it was created by a craftsman named Osakabe-no-Tokikuni and dedicated by Priest Josho on December 17, 1079.
