上方に愛染明王が配されている鏡で、室町期に盛行した。愛染明王は、全身赤色で、三つの目、六本の腕、獅子の冠を付け、怒りの相をあらわす。もとはヒンズー教の神であったが、後に真言密教において愛欲をつかさどる神となった。これを信仰すれば恋愛が成就するともいわれ、とりわけ女性にとって、愛染明王の描かれた鏡を持つことは、恋愛の護符の役割を担ったかとも推測される。
