Muromachi mirrors increasingly carried depictions of various architectural structures, such as the Imperial Palace, shrine edifices, farm houses, and the like. This new artistic expression was perhaps an attempt to break free from the traditional motifs and designs that had been used continuously since the Heian through Kamakura periods.
