古来より富士山は文学や絵画の題材とされてきたが、鏡の文様としては江戸前期までほとんど見られない。江戸中期頃より、三保松原・田子浦・清見寺といった名勝を前景に置き、そこから富士を望む風景として、人気の画題となった。
