後漢時代の代表的な鏡。前漢代の銘文鏡の一部が連弧文を持っていたのが源流で、後漢代に入って銘文帯が徐々に退化し、内区の花弁状の連弧（主に八弧文）が主文様となったことにより、この名で呼ばれている。ただし、「内行花文」という名称は日本独自のものであり、中国では単に「連弧文」と呼ばれている。日本の古墳からもしばしば同種の鏡が出土するが、この内行花文鏡を模倣して制作したものである。主として内行花文鏡の鈕座は、四つの葉の形をした四葉文鈕座と、四葉文が変形して蝙蝠（コウモリ）のような形になった蝙蝠形鈕座があり、それぞれの鈕座文様の間には「長宜子孫（長く子孫によろし）」などの吉祥銘が刻まれる。
