唐鏡の双鸞銜綬鏡（そうらんかんじゅきょう・２羽の鸞鳥が紐や唐花をくわえている文様）に影響を受けたもので、鸞鳥を鶴に、くわえていた紐・唐花を松に置き換えている。中には、松を口にくわえないものもある。松・鶴ともに長寿を表し、日本人が好む瑞祥の組み合わせとなっている。『拾遺和歌集』巻五・賀、伊勢〈874頃-939以降〉の「千歳とも何か祈らんうらにすむ鶴のうへをぞ見るべかりける」という歌の詞書に、「かゞみ鋳させ侍りける裏に鶴の形鋳つけさせ侍りて」とあり、平安時代前半にはすでに鶴の文様を描いた鏡が存在したことが示されていて、興味深い。
