During the Tang Dynasty, many new mirror shapes came into being, including the hollyhock and water chestnut. Mirror shape diversified further during the Sung Dynasty. Some mirrors resembled a very simple character of the Chinese alphabet, while others took on a bell form, and a mirror designed with a handle made its first appearance. The mirror featured here has an unprecedented petal shape.
