Illustrated tiles have been discovered in the ruins of ancient palaces and mausoleums or tombs of the Han Dynasty. These carved illustrations of sacred creatures, four beasts, chariots, and dancing people, as well as other motifs derived from ancient legends, also often are found decorating ancient mirrors.
