It is the inscription that most characterizes a Sung (or Song) mirror. Traditionally, Chinese characters, making a full circle, were arranged on the mirror’s inscription band. During the Sung Dynasty, however, two or three lines of inscriptions began to be written vertically. These inscriptions often denote the origin of the metal, people’s names and the year.
