Small projections called “nipples” are linked together to form an arrangement of constellation-like figures referred to as a “nebulous motif” or “cloud motif.” As in most cases, the 16 bows here are linked together to form a circle, with the bows oriented toward the center of the mirror. Around the 16-bow design appear four large nipples, which are arranged at the four corners of a square, while smaller nipples linked by curved lines fill up the spaces between the four large ones. Many mirrors similar to the one exhibited here also have a characteristic knob design known as a “mountain range,” as it looks like a chain of mountains. This mirror’s edge is decorated with linked bows that face inward.
