The lightning motif was developed from a feathered version and looks like a spiral Letter L or angular Letter C of the Roman alphabet. Although the pattern frequently appeared in ancient times, such as the Period of Warring States, the new four-leaf arrangement around the central knob suggests that this mirror was produced at a later time, perhaps during the Former Han Dynasty.
