On this mirror, you can see a motif made up of several linked bows. The most popular arrangement had eight bows, but the number of bows varies between six and a dozen or more, like this mirror. The bows usually looped out to the mirror’s edge or through the inner periphery, while others did not. In the latter case, the linked-bow motif resembled a star. Hence, it is considered to have evolved from the star motif used to decorate copperware during the Shang Dynasty.
