Artifact Water Art Cylinder Serveware

This bronze sutra cylinder has been handed down as an excavation from the ancient ruins in Kasai City, Hyogo Prefecture, along with the ceramic container described under No.01342-0002. The cylinder had been preserved in the ceramic container as the pious tried to safeguard the copies of sacred scriptures until the return of the Miroku Bosatsu (Sanscrit: Maitreya Bodhisattva) 5.67 billion years later to save all humanity. The sutra cylinder is a reminder of the solid faith of the ancient people of the Heian Period (12th c.). The flat tightly-fitting lid has a graceful knob in the center. The chamfered brim adds to the overall simplicity. The green rust, gradually collected over the centuries, also adds serene elegance to this piece of art.
