This bronze sutra cylinder has been handed down as an excavation from the ancient ruins in Kasai City, Hyogo Prefecture, along with the ceramic container described under No.01342-0002. The cylinder had been preserved in the ceramic container as the pious tried to safeguard the copies of sacred scriptures until the return of the Miroku Bosatsu (Sanscrit: Maitreya Bodhisattva) 5.67 billion years later to save all humanity. This ceramic container also shows the features of pots made between the early 5th and 12th centuries. The wide-brimmed lid completely covers the body’s mouth and looks a little like a hat. The design seems to take after a legless mortar. The clay of the lid is different, so it perhaps was made at one of the Sanage Kilns.
