This is a bronze sutra cylinder with an umbrella-shaped lid. The raised lid forms a refined line as it sits snugly on top of the cylinder body. A houshu (or houju), a spherical or pear-shaped object, with a long stalk is seen in the center of the lid. The cylinder has a flat bottom. From its design, this cylinder was most likely found in a sutra mound in northern Kyushu.
