This mirror case is a very large-sized example. The borders of the cover and the container are protected by tin rim bands. Unusual is the decoration on the top of the cover, showing two dogs of Western breed. It reflects curiosity of Japanese people of the time in the strange long-tailed, long-legged dogs which arrived in Japan along with importation of Namban (European) civilization.
