The cover of this letter box is divided into four sections by three floating clouds, and each section is filled with a weeping cherry tree, irises, chrysanthemums, and peonies. The cloud effect was obtained by gradation of the pearskin surface, (gold powder sprinkled in lacquer), in which bits of gold sand sparkle. The different flowers, depicted by employing various makie techniques, seem to vie with each other in their beauty.
