赤色で忿怒相の童子像。金剛童子（護法神のひとつで、真言密教においる息災・調伏の修法の際の本尊とされる）の１変形。肉身を朱色で塗り、眉を逆立て、口をヘの字に結ぶ恐ろしい形相の童子に描く。顎を支えて、岩座に立つこの姿をふつう春日赤童子像と呼ばれる。描法や賦彩色、絹地の状態などから、室町時代後半の制作と思われる。が、伝存の少ない遺例として貴重な作品である。
