亀田鵬斎〈かめだぼうさい・1752-1826〉は江戸時代後期の儒者。名は翼（すけ）、のちに長興（ちょうこう）、字は穉龍（ちりゅう）。鵬斎、善身堂の号をもつ。折衷学を井上金峨〈いのうえきんが・1732-84〉に学び、当時の官学である朱子学や、荻生徂徠〈おぎゅうそらい・1666―1728〉らの古文辞学派を排撃したが、折しも朱子学以外の学問を禁じた「寛政異学の禁」（寛政２年〈1790〉５月）が断行され、鵬斎は異端の筆頭と目されて弾圧を受けた。かれは、江戸の書家・三井親和〈みついしんな・1700-82〉に書を学び、殊に草書を得意とした。また、良寛〈りょうかん・1758-1831〉の人柄や書にも魅了され、越後訪問以後は次第にその書風に強い影響をうけた。この「雨歇南山積翠来」（雨歇みて南山積翠来る）は、唐の詩人・李憕〈りちょう・?-756〉の七言律詩の一句。「雲飛北闕軽陰散」と対句を成す。「たれこめていた雲が飛び散り、北の宮門あたりの薄いかげりも立ち消え、雨が止んで、南山の積み重なった緑が押し寄せてくる」といった情景を詠む。鵬斎独特の結構美を示している。
