亀田鵬斎〈かめだぼうさい・1752-1826〉は江戸時代後期の儒者。名は翼（すけ）、のちに長興（ちょうこう）、字は穉龍（ちりゅう）。鵬斎、善身堂の号をもつ。折衷学を井上金峨〈いのうえきんが・1732-84〉に学び、当時の官学である朱子学や、荻生徂徠〈おぎゅうそらい・1666―1728〉らの古文辞学派を排撃したが、折しも朱子学以外の学問を禁じた「寛政異学の禁」（寛政２年〈1790〉５月）が断行され、鵬斎は異端の筆頭と目されて弾圧を受けた。かれは、江戸の書家・三井親和〈みついしんな・1700-82〉に書を学び、殊に草書を得意とした。また、良寛〈りょうかん・1758-1831〉の人柄や書にも魅了され、越後訪問以後は次第にその書風に強い影響をうけた。これは款記によれば、鵬斎晩年72歳の書。いささか誇張のうらみはあるが、その面目躍如のものがある。蘇軾『前赤壁賦』からの引用で、「惟江上之清風、與山間之明月、（中略）是造物者之無尽蔵也」を七言にまとめたもの。
