伊藤仁斎〈いとうじんさい・1627-1705〉は江戸時代の儒者。古学堀川学派の祖。名は維楨（これえだ）。敬斎、仁斎と号す。京都の商家に生まれ、幼少のころより学問を志し、朱子学を学んだ。のち、孔子、孟子の原典にあたり、儒学本来の思想と考えられるものを独学で体系づけ、その学問を「古学」と称した。寛文２年〈1662〉、京都堀川の自宅で私塾古義堂（こぎどう）を開き、長男の東涯〈とうがい・1670-1736〉や稲生若水〈いのうじゃくすい・1655-1715〉らの弟子を育成し、儒学思想の普及・定着に大きな功績を残した。これは、「竹開霜後翠」（竹は霜の降りた後に新芽をふいて青々した新緑を呈する）の５字を一行に大書する。筆管を立てて一気呵成、筆勢あふれる筆致である。骨格のしっかりした力強い結構は唐様書の特色の一つである。
