関其寧〈かんきねい・1733-1800〉は、江戸中期の書家。本姓は落合氏。南楼（なんろう）と号した。書を関思恭〈かんしきょう・1697-1766〉に学び、その技倆が買われたのであろうか、思恭の養嗣子となった。細井広沢〈ほそいこうたく・1658-1735〉の高弟で知られた思恭の風を継承、弟子の育成にもつとめた。この「坐しては雲の起こる時を看る」は、唐代の詩人・王維〈おうい・701-761〉の「終南の別業」と題する五言律詩の一句。通常、「行到水窮処」（行きては水の窮まる処）と対句で書写されることが多い。「雲のわくのを無心に眺めている」の意。大自然と同化した無我の境地を象徴する。唐様書法ながら、独特の字形に書写する。達筆を証明する作品といえる。
