烏丸光宣〈からすまるみつのぶ・1549-1611〉は、光康〈みつやす・1513-75〉の長男。烏丸家は代々歌道の家柄で、当時の天皇や公卿の指導的立場を担ってきた。光宣はその６代目。累進して権大納言に至り、慶長16年〈1611〉63歳で没する直前には、准大臣まで昇った。天正16年〈1588〉に豊臣秀吉〈とよとみひでよし・1536-98〉主催の聚楽第歌会にも供奉している。書に巧みで、青蓮院尊朝法親王〈そんちょうほうしんのう・1552-97〉について学び、能書ぶりを発揮した。江戸時代初期の歌人書家として特筆される烏丸光広〈みつひろ・1579-1638〉は、光宣の長子である。この短冊は、充実した筆線から、壮年期の執筆を思わせる。肥痩濃淡の変化が絶妙である。
