島津家久〈しまづいえひさ・1576-1638〉は、江戸時代初期の武将。義弘〈よしひろ・1535-1619〉の第三子で、兄２人の夭折により家督を継いだ。幼名米菊丸（よねきくまる）、初名は忠恒（ただつね）、通称は又八郎（またはちろう）。文禄・慶長の役では父と出陣し各地で功を挙げた。関ケ原の役では西軍方につき敗北するが、許され、慶長11年〈1606〉６月、徳川家康〈とくがわいえやす・1542-1616〉の偏諱を賜って家久と改名。慶長14年〈1609〉には幕府の内諾をうけて琉球に侵攻し、その領有を認められた。寛永元年〈1624〉からは妻子を江戸に送り、参勤交代制の先駆けとなる。秀吉・家康の寵幸を受け、近衛信尋〈このえのぶひろ・1599-1649〉など宮廷公卿とも親交の深かった家久は、学問を重んじ、和歌や連歌を好み、茶道や書道もよくしたという。寛永15年〈1638〉２月23日、63歳で没した。この短冊は「家久」の署名より、改名した31歳以降の筆跡とわかる。武将ながら、公卿伝統の書法を掌中にした堂々たる筆致は見事である。
